NBA 2021 Free Agency: Top 5 Teams That Could Sign DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan is a 2-guard who does the majority of his damage in the mid-post or closer to the basket. He’s a solid star that can help take a team to the next level. We’ll be going over the 5 teams who we believe are most likely to sign him.
#1. New York Knicks
The Knicks not only have the cap space to pay him, but also the need for him. Derozan could help elevate the Knicks’ game to the next level with his ability to give you 20 points a night. I believe adding Lonzo Ball to this mix would make the deal even sweeter. A starting 5 with Lonzo, DeRozan, Barret, and Randle already sounds like a problem. If the Knicks can get solid role players and Lonzo’s outside shooting gets better, I can see this team making a big push in the playoffs.
#2. Miami Heat
Our next choice is the Miami Heat. Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler already make the Heat a scary team to face. Adding DeMar DeRozan could help them make another finals push. This big three paired with solid role players would be able to make a huge splash in the Eastern Conference.
#3. Dallas Mavericks
With the Mavericks trying to make as big of a playoff push as they can with Luka Doncic still on his rookie contract, signing DeMar DeRozan could help them do just that. The duo of Luka and Porzingis is good, but it seems they still need someone else to make them a legitimate contender. This off season the Dallas Mavericks have the cap space to sign DeRozan and also get some role players to provide more outside shooting.
#4. Toronto Raptors
A reunion with the Raptors isn’t too far fetched. DeRozan clearly has love for the team and they have the cap space to get him. I don’t really see this move as something that would make the Raptors a threat, however it might get them into the playoffs. Even, so we can’t rule out the chance of a reunion.
#5. Charlotte Hornets
This is a bit of a tricky situation. The Hornets have A LOT of guards on their roster so would it even make sense to sign DeRozan? I think this move would be good if they’re looking to offload some of their guards and are looking more towards the future. The 2022 free agency is going to have no shortage of star players, Charlotte could see DeRozan as part of an upcoming big 3.
